Skype 5.0 hits Mac with group video calling, streamlined interface

Skype 5.0 hits Mac with group video calling, streamlined interface: "

Mac users have already been able to do some group video calling with recent beta versions of Skype, but the company has now finally brought things fully up to speed with its Windows counterpart and released the final version of Skype 5.0 for OS X. In addition to group video calling, the application sports a whole new interface that Skype says has been 'slimmed down' (compared to the previous beta versions, at least) and allows you to see 30 percent more contacts at once. As with the Windows version, however, that group video calling feature has now been relegated to the premium package which, after a free seven-day trial, will run you $4.99 for a day pass or $8.99 a month for a subscription (though you can get 33 percent off if you sign up before February 28th). Head on past the break for quick video overview.

The Chevy Volt To Be Available Nationwide By The End Of 2011

The Chevy Volt To Be Available Nationwide By The End Of 2011: "

The Chevy Volt is going national a little bit ahead of schedule. GM just released a statement proclaiming that the “don’t call it a series hybrid” vehicle will be available from dealers in all 50 US states by the end of 2011. Currently the Volt is sold and delivered only in D.C., California, New York, Connecticut, New Jersey, and Texas. An additional eleven states will have access by the end of the third quarter with the rest of the Union getting access by the end of the year.

The press release also adds to the case of the Volt’s important halo status. Harry E. Criswell III, president and owner of Criswell Chevrolet, “The Volt is clearly bringing new customers to Chevrolet. We are seeing 10 to 15 customers a week who are seriously considering buying a Volt. Many of them own competitive brands and now have a Chevy on their shopping list because of the Volt.” GM’s diabolical plan is working.

CCleaner Network Edition now available to help admins keep their PCs tidy

CCleaner Network Edition now available to help admins keep their PCs tidy: "

CCleaner is one of our favorite utilties, and it's a great way to keep computers free of unwanted temporary files and registry clutter both at home and at the office. It does, however, lack certain features which LAN administrators demand -- like a management console and an easy, network-wide deployment process.

Recently, however, Piriform began testing CCleaner Network Edition, which was designed to meet an admin's needs. The new app allows you to remotely initiate scans and manage your entire network's cleaning rules and settings from a single computer. You can also scan an entire workgroup -- or all your machines -- at once. One-click deployment is built in as well, making it easy to push CCleaner NE to your workstations.

CCleaner Network Edition costs $20 per user (or less, depending on volume) and is available now from the Piriform website. A free trial is also available.

Is AT&T Allowing Unlimited iPhone Data After All? [Data]

Is AT&T Allowing Unlimited iPhone Data After All? [Data]: "
Remember when AT&T killed off its unlimited data plan, unless you were grandfathered in? The AP reports that the carrier is quietly backtracking to allow customers who previously had unlimited data—but switched to tiered pricing—to return to all-you-can-eat. More »

I am very interested to see how this develops. AT&T is in a pretty good position (despite popular opinion) to remain the dominant iPhone carrier in the US, despite losing it's exclusive status.

I think 25% of iPhones on AT&T could migrate to Verizon, which would leave lots of available bandwidth for those of us who remain.
